The plaster coating on a straw bale wall is both the structure and the final finish of the wall system, so it must look good and be strong and durable. This two day, hands-on workshop will take you through the steps of choosing the right plaster for you and your building. We’ll cover acquiring the materials, mixing, applying and finishing for different plaster types, including cement/lime, lime and earthen plasters. We will talk about the advantages and disadvantages of each plaster type. During the hands-on work, we will mix and apply base coat and second coat layers of lime plaster and earthen plaster. We will work on mixing efficiency and quality and learning the techniques of application for straight and curved sections of the building. Get ready to get dirty!
